Holidays

What a great week it's been! I've had a relaxing time in Ingersoll, and have only been in Kitchener for a few days. Why? Well, I don't work in Kitchener at all (apart from the wedding) and I've been in and out of London for the last while. I've had a great time going out with friends all over the place - from house hang-outs to getting all dolled up and going out on the town, it's all been a lot of fun.

I'm really looking forward to New Year's Eve :) I bought a really nice dress that makes me feel great, I'm going to hang out with people I haven't seen in a while - it will be a great time.

As for work, I got to record a Kurdish wedding just after Christmas. It was a lot of fun, but also very challenging! It was cool to get involved with new traditions, and at the end of the night, I was wiped. 5 tapes, running around from one end of the hall to the other, and 0 battery power left, I was pooched! I'm looking forward to editing it all together - but not until after new years. I want to relax and not be on the computer as much until then.

Speaking of use of the computer - I realized that if I worked at Perimeter and Rogers in a day, I am on the computer that day for an average of 16 hours. Now that I've been on holidays, I'm on for an average of 1.5 hours on days I don't work, and 9 when I do. I haven't slept better in a long time. I think I need to figure out a way to not be on the computer so much.

I've also been going to the gym A LOT. It's been great to be able to go for 1.5/2 hours a day. I feel great :)

Anyway, I'm off. Happy New Year to everyone out there!

Feeling Relaxed

Coming up on this week, I thought I would be bored out of my mind... more days off than I know what to do with, spent with 'no plans' and no editing to keep me busy... I HATE being bored. However, I don't think I've felt more relaxed in a while. I mean, today I slept for probably 4 hours throughout the day, read my book, and chilled out in Ingersoll. I've been to the gym for some extended workouts, helped Mom with some desserts, and hung out with friends :) It's been a great week leading up to Christmas.

With regard to business, this is pretty much the calm before the storm. I finished a video about a conference on hope on Monday - the presenter loved it. I'm really happy with how it turned out as I was kind of worried it wouldn't work with putting slides over the top of video. I will put a short clip up on my website soon. Im taping a wedding on the 27th, so I'm just getting ready for that. I have a few other videos lined up for January, so it should be great :) I also have received a few e-mails about a couple more weddings for summer of next year this week that look like they will follow through. Next summer should be great.

This week, I've really thought about what I really want for next year. Here's what I've got so far:

1) Travel - I barely went anywhere this year. As much as I've loved everything I've done, I really wanted to travel more. I have to go to Newfoundland sometime soon... that just isn't a question. 2 years has been a little much. I want to go somewhere warm... the Dominican is looking promising. I also want to go camping again this year for a week.... because lazing around by a beach for a week would be awesome.

2) Keep going to the gym - I feel great. I haven't felt better than what I have in the last couple months. I'm thinking I want to join some sort of team... a swim team maybe... I'd love to take some classes as well - dance maybe.

3) Learn something - I have been looking into doing some classes for small business management - twice a week in the evening. However, I can't start them in January as the 'recommended' pre-requisite isn't until the summer semester. But I think it would definitely be beneficial.

This is only the beginning of the list - It will get longer I'm sure :)

One more - I want lots of flowers... Love them :P

Gratitude

This week has been great :) I will be shooting at the Grand River Hospital tomorrow afternoon and am quite excited.

Well, I have been thinking about what I've been doing as of late, and how much things have changed in the last year. I went from living in a room the size of a closet with not much of anything to living on my own, with a car, getting 2 awesome jobs in my field, buying (not one but) 2 cameras, and officially starting my own business. I also figured... since its Christmas... I would like to tell everyone who I am most thankful for.

1) My parents. I've pretty much put them through hell and back over the last few years and they're still around :)

2) To my close friends - Thank you for everything. You have made me believe in myself. I know sometimes I am so busy or I dwell on stupid things, but thanks for always sticking by me. You all know who you are.

3) My old room mates - Because as small as that damn house was, we always had a good time. Thanks for letting me move in with you guys :)

4) My teachers - Well, when we were all in school, I think we all thought that we weren't learning as much as we did. Now, a year and a half later, it's definitely coming full circle :P Thanks! lol

5) To everyone who has considered me for a volunteer position last year - Wow. The experience I got and the friends I made are so worth any amount of work I ever did. Thank you for giving me the confidence to start actually pursuing my dream job :)

6) To those who actually considered me for work - Thank you for your kindness and consideration. I really appreciate all you have done.

So, thank you. You mean a lot to me.

Self-Indulgence and Accomplishment

Even though my week was crazy at the beginning, it seems to have settled down a little. I'm enjoying my sleep for the last couple days and cooking meals at home (even if some are just a toasted sandwich lol). It's the little things that seem to make my day - coming home and reading a book... or waking up in the morning and having poached eggs on toast... or hearing from friend - these are what keep me going :)

Well, this week I managed to finish a DVD of a concert I shot in October. I know... procrastinate much? Nah, this was more of an ongoing project that simply needed to get done with no fixed deadline. Therefore, I worked on other projects in the meantime. However, it was great to finally have it off my plate and out of the back of my mind! I hope the band really enjoys it!

I also had a customer send me a testimonial for my website, which was very much appreciated. Here it is:

Amanda was a pleasure to work with on our wedding day! She went over and above what we expected and delivered an awesome video at the end of it. She was on time, very professional, and captured our day perfectly. Thanks again, Amanda! We really appreciate your hard work and letting us really see our wedding day after the fact!

Thanks again to Craig and Deanna Jacobs for their kind words :)

And finally, a little on self indulgence - I went out today and bought myself my own gift for Christmas. Now, for everyone out there who is thinking I'm just some selfish stuck-up good-for-nothing chick, read my previous posts!! :P As you can see, I have sunk enough money and time into my car and other costs that I think I am entitled to a little pampering. So, this is the ONE thing I get for myself that I actually wanted... of course, I didn't really need it, but I saw it, liked it, and bought it. I think everyone has to do that every once in a while - today is my day, and I'm proud of it! :)

PS - My blog surpassed 300 views!! THANK YOU to the readers out there!

Pressing On...

This week has been busy as usual. Of course, when I hope to have an evening off, I'm usually too tired to do anything. Apart from other work, my nights have consisted of meetings, Quickbooks (that wasn't so quick) and editing a long over-due concert (which I will finish on the weekend). However, the good news is I have another wedding lined up for the end of the month and a possible concert for the weekend. I'm not sure I want to do it - I need to get this other concert finished, get some xmas shopping done, and check out the hall for the wedding - but quite frankly I would love to be able to catch up on sleep. I know this is the last weekend I will have off for quite some time, and I need to use it to catch up on some work. And I thought December wouldn't be as busy?! :P

Apart from that, nothing exciting is going on really. I went for a long workout last weekend, and wants to do it again soon. I went for a brief swim on Tuesday, and then have been sleeping ever since it seems... I think I need to get used to going to bed earlier or something... even 10pm seems extremely late right now. Strange...

Anyway, I'll leave this one short and sweet :) I have a wicked quote that I heard to end it off :)

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” ~ Calvin Coolidge
