24 Hours and No More

What a busy week - and it's not even over yet!

I am really good with scheduling my time, but I have learned that in my field of work, it seems as if short notice work is common. I have been asked to do a number of projects this week with 3-4 days notice, but I am unable to do these with an already busy work week. It frustrates me that this is the case - I can't rely on these projects coming up, so I schedule my other employment weeks in advance. I guess I wish I could make my business a full time job right off the cuff, but I know that isn't realistic at all.

So here's my question to business owners - how do you know when to make that step and make your business your (more) permanent position? I feel like I am stuck where I am right now - don't get me wrong, I am very happy where I am, but I want to be able to make myself more available to take on projects with my business.

I was given great advice from a few people this week - that I should post that I need at least 2 weeks notice to take on a project. However, should I apply this and cancel myself out of these short notice projects? What if I am able to arrange it? My loyalty right now remains with my current employers, first and foremost.

I have also come to a point where I am finished with volunteer work - it just isn't feasible for me right now to be working for no money. I have been stressing this fact, and I feel people are finally starting to see me in a more professional light. I am grateful to be in a position to do a career that I love, but I feel this is what I need to do to be taken professionally. I'm not looking to break the clients' bank at all, but I need to make it worthwhile for myself. If people would like me to become available for their projects, I cannot take time off work to volunteer with no benefits for myself. That may be selfish, but I need to look out for myself and cover my expenses.

I think I need to move to a country where there is more hours in a day :P

I may be busy, but this does not mean I am not excited to see where I am going :) I'm really happy I made the choice to make this official.

My video this week is of one of my favorite performers from RJ Entertainment's songwriting competition - Cara Lee. I hope you enjoy as well!

Hope to hear from you soon!

End of Weekend Blues

Is it just me, or does a day off sometimes feel even more weird than a crazy work week?

I honestly don't know what to do with myself! I feel like being in a work mode is constant for me, and now that Im not, I just have nothing to do :) Though this last weekend off has been relaxing, I know it's now time to get moving again! 12 hour shifts at the beginning of the week? That's one way to start!

Last week, I opened up a new business account. It's now feeling more and more official every day and I am excited more and more each day with what I can do.

I hope this week to get some projects out of the way, even with a busy work/gym schedule. I'll make it work :)

Hmm... a video to post this week... How about the Aveda Contest Video? I was really happy with how this video turned out - it won the contest and was then disqualified for TOO MANY views :P

Let me know what you think!

Hartery Productions

Hello to those reading (whoever you may be).

Since starting my new business, I have been researching new ways to get myself out there without spending cash on promotions. So far, it's been Kijiji... a new website... and I'm thinking this might work :)

I plan to update this on a weekly basis. I will feature new or existing videos I have finished, as well as keep people updated on what's going on with Hartery Productions.

The first order of business - I would like to ask for some advice - anyone know of places for free (and shameless) promoting? I would love to hear some new ideas.

The link I will share this week is to my free website. I like it, as I get to display my work as well as tell a little about myself without being overbearing.
